Eighteenth & Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
August 1 & 8, 2010
PASTOR’S COMMENTS
Is Drinking Causing You Problems?
How can you tell if you are engaging in problem alcohol use? For help in determining if your drinking is not in control, Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) offers a list of questions, available from your local chapter or on the AA Web site (www.alcoholics-anonymous.org/). If you answer yes to four or more of the questions, AA suggests you seek help. The questions include: § Have you ever decided to stop drinking for a week or so, but could only hold out for a couple of days? § Do you wish people would mind their own business about your drinking – stop telling you what to do? § Have you ever missed days of school or work because of excess drinking? § Have you every switched from one kind of drink to another in the hope that this would keep you from getting drunk? § Have you ever had an “eye-opener” upon awakening during the past year? § Do you envy people who can drink without getting into trouble? Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) emphasizes that only the alcoholic can seek help for him or herself. While family members may encourage the problem drinker to stop, true healing comes only when the alcoholic decides to take the first step. Source: Alcoholics Anonymous For more information go on line www.rhodeisland-aa.org/ or call 1-800-443-9484. Fr. John
